After having dug to a depth of 20 meters last year, English scientists found traces of copper wire d ating back over 200 years and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network 200 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the English, in the weeks that followed, Scottish scientists dug to a depth of 30 meters, and shortly after, headlines in the UK newspapers read: 'Scottish archaeologists have found traces of 300 year old copper wire and have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the English.'

One week later, 'The Daily Jigger,' an Irish newspaper, reported the following: 'After digging as deep as 40 meters, Paddy McMahon, a self taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing. Paddy has therefore concluded that 400 years ago Ireland had already gone wireless.'

Since the earliest days of our Republic, Irish Americans have enriched our culture with their faith, values, and hard work. During the month of March, we celebrate the contributions of Americans who trace their ancestry back to Ireland's shores.

Many of the sons and daughters of Erin came to America fleeing famine and poverty. They came with dreams of opportunity, and they helped to build our democracy and advance the cause of liberty. Irish Americans in all walks of life have made lasting contributions to our Nation, and we honor the service of Irish Americans in America's Armed Forces. Throughout our history, those claiming Irish ancestry have helped shape and strengthen America, including as signers of the Declaration of Independence and as Presidents of the United States.

This month, we celebrate the patriotic and proud people who originated from the Emerald Isle and who have played a vital role in the story of this Nation of immigrants.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 2008 as Irish-American Heritage Month. I call upon all Americans to observe this month by celebrating the contributions of Irish Americans to our Nation.

I need to make you and the clan of O'Carroll (indeed all Irish people in the world) aware of a terrible crime that is being perpetrated against us at this time, at Tara in County Meath Ireland (the historical seat of the High Kings of Ireland). I and a small handful of others (the Fianna faerie) have been fighting tooth and nail in awful wet muddy conditions to oppose the construction of a four lane motorway through the ancient, sacred landscape that is the living heart of Ireland. The proposed route of this motorway cuts through and directly destroys 44 different archaeological sites. Sites of such massive significance that the highly respected world monuments fund has placed the whole area on its list of 100 most endangered sites of international archaeological importance. The European Commission has repeatedly ordered the present Irish government to stop construction, the response of the Irish National Roads Authority and their allies Ferrovial, Wills Bros! and SIAC has been to step up the bulldozing of the sites in question. With bulldozers coming in at night to smash and destroy Fiann-an graves and other ancient, sacred places that are the wealth and richness of our peoples soul. Although the government and contractors know that what they are doing is highly illegal they came on July 18th to a site at the foot of Tara Hill (called Soldiers Hill) We fought all day to obstruct their machines, seven people were arrested, four imprisoned, that site we were defending was the battlefield where 300 poorly armed United Irishmen were defeated and killed by the English in 1798. Now it is a crater in the ground. It is earmarked for the construction of a 52 acre freeway interchange, one of the largest in Europe. I could continue to explain the negative impact that this interchange will have on the Tara area, or the proof of the corruption that politicians and developers alike have allowed to influence the siting of this road, but suffice to say all the newspaper references and background information are available at www.tarawatch.org. A few pages back in the site is a section called "corruptionwatch" which contains the relevant newspaper articles. I myself have been urging people to come and oppose this callous and barbaric destruction of Ireland's heritage, culture and dignity but it is down to each individual who cares, to think what they can do to make this awful crime stop. We really need as much press coverage as possible, throughout the world as well as in Ireland. We want people to come to Tara and stand with us against the construction, we need international pressure against the present Irish government to urge them to reroute the road to the west of Tara hill along the path of an old disused railway track (shorter, more direct, flat level gradient, 60 million euros cheaper, but no opportunity for corrupt property developers to cash in) we will be planning various actions against those responsible for this road. I urge you to publicise the website: www.tarapixie.net as widely as possible as this is an independent website belonging to no group and is focused purely on creating resistance to the present route of the road. Finally on a lighter note, our friends around the world have begun to answer the call for help, earlier this year I e-mailed the Lakota Sioux, I reminded them that during the famine they had sent ships full of blankets and potato seed to Ireland to try to help the peoples desperate plight, I reminded them also that they had made some prominent Irishmen (Eamon de Valera etc...) honorary chieftains of their tribe, I asked for their help and prayers at this time of momentous challenge for Ireland and her people, on the 24th of November I met with a Lakota Sioux representative on Tara Hill. I'm happy to tell you that the friendship between our peoples has stood the test of time. Thanks for your time and consideration.

Regarding our Clan Reg-Chieftain John Navin in Washington, as some are aware John due to Problems and Illness curtailed his Games Calendar for 2005, with hopes of getting back into Attendance for 2006.

I also wish to express our appreciation to The O'Morchoe for Informing the Council of Chiefs on her Passing Away.

It was with sad heart to learn our Sub-Chieftain Mr. Denman Riley of Spokane, Washington had Passed Away the 1st of February just prior to our Annual General Meeting.

He is Survived by his Wife, Sons, and Daughter Clan Sub-Chieftain, Madam Debbie Riley-Hinshaw of Spokane.

Sub-Chieftain Denman Riley was a Dedicated and Supportive Member of Clan Cian and to myself, Chief Eile.

Denman joins fellow Clan Chieftains that Supported and Passed Away while Serving Clan Cian. To their Memory we Salute them with "Seabhach Abu"
